Why Many Clients Choose An Out Of Network Provider?

Choosing an out-of-network practice is an important decision. At Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services, it is a decision we have made intentionally because we believe it allows us to provide care that is guided by your needs—not insurance requirements.

Treatment Driven by Clinical Need

Your therapist is free to recommend the frequency, duration, and type of treatment that best supports your goals without being limited by insurance authorization requirements, session limits, or reimbursement guidelines. Treatment decisions are based on clinical judgment and what is in your best interest—not what an insurance company will approve.

Greater Privacy and Confidentiality

When mental health services are billed through insurance, insurance companies generally require a mental health diagnosis and clinical information to determine eligibility for reimbursement. By choosing an out-of-network practice, many of our clients are able to limit the amount of personal mental health information shared with third parties.

Many individuals and families value this additional level of privacy, particularly those who:

  • Prefer to keep their mental health treatment as confidential as possible.
  • Work in professions where privacy is especially important.
  • Prefer not to submit their child's therapy through insurance when they have the option to pay privately.
  • Want greater control over when and with whom their personal mental health information is shared.

A Diagnosis Only When Clinically Appropriate

Insurance reimbursement for psychotherapy generally requires a diagnosable mental health condition. While many individuals seeking therapy do meet diagnostic criteria, others seek support for life transitions, parenting challenges, relationship concerns, stress, grief, or personal growth that may not warrant a mental health diagnosis.

At Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services, we believe a diagnosis should be made only when it is clinically appropriate—not because it is required for reimbursement. Our focus is on understanding your concerns and providing individualized care, rather than determining whether you meet insurance billing requirements.

Why Privacy Matters

Many of our clients choose private-pay services because they value having greater control over their personal health information. Depending on the circumstances, individuals may be asked to authorize the release of portions of their medical records when applying for life insurance, certain government or military positions, professional licensing, disability benefits, or other programs. Requirements vary by organization and situation.

By choosing an out-of-network practice, many clients feel they have greater control over what information is shared, when it is shared, and with whom. We encourage every client to make the decision that best aligns with their personal, professional, and family priorities.

Freedom to Choose the Right Therapist

Many people choose an out-of-network practice because they want the therapist who is the best fit for their needs—not simply one who participates with their insurance plan. We take the time to thoughtfully match clients with a clinician whose experience, training, and therapeutic approach align with their goals.

Our Commitment to Clinical Excellence

Our practice is built around experienced clinicians who are committed to advanced training, ongoing consultation, and professional growth. We intentionally invest in highly qualified professionals because we believe exceptional clinicians provide exceptional care. Our goal is to provide personalized treatment, meaningful relationships, and the highest standard of clinical care for every individual and family we serve.

Many insurance plans include out-of-network benefits. Upon request, we are happy to provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. We encourage you to contact your insurance carrier to learn about your specific out-of-network benefits.

Privacy considerations vary depending on the insurance plan, employer, licensing board, government agency, and individual circumstances. If you have questions about how using insurance may affect your situation, we encourage you to discuss them with your insurance carrier or the appropriate organization before beginning treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your emotions, stress, relationships, or life circumstances are affecting your daily functioning or overall well-being, therapy may help. You do not have to wait until you're in crisis to benefit from professional support.

Most clients begin with weekly sessions. As progress is made, appointments may become less frequent based on your goals, symptoms, and your therapist's recommendations.

The length of therapy varies for every individual. Some people benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific concern, and stop when the crisis is over. Others choose longer-term therapy for ongoing growth, healing, or support.

Yes. We provide secure telehealth appointments for clients throughout North Carolina as well as in-person appointments at our North Carolina office locations.

Possibly

Krippa Family Psychological & Wellness Services has intentionally chosen not to enter into contracts with insurance companies. This allows us to prioritize what matters most—providing care based on your individual needs rather than insurance requirements.

Because we are not limited by insurance contracts, your therapist can recommend the frequency, duration, and approach to treatment based on clinical judgment, not predetermined session limits or authorization requirements.

Our out-of-network model also provides an added level of privacy. In many cases, using insurance requires the disclosure of personal mental health information, including diagnoses and treatment details. By remaining out of network, we can better protect your confidentiality and your mental health record.

We have also chosen to build our practice around highly trained clinicians with specialized expertise and a commitment to ongoing professional development. Rather than focusing on insurance networks, we focus on providing exceptional clinical care and finding the right therapist for each client.

Many insurance plans include out-of-network benefits. Upon request, we are happy to provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. It is sometimes cheaper to use OON benefits than INN depending on your plan. We will contact your insurance carrier to learn about your specific benefits if you wish to use your OON benefits.

No. We do not use artificial intelligence (AI) to record or transcribe therapy sessions, and we will never ask you to consent to AI transcription as a condition of receiving care. We believe protecting your privacy and confidentiality is fundamental to building trust. Your therapy sessions remain between you and your clinician.
